We offer federal financial aid
V3 College, through Mississippi University for Women, is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to offer federal financial aid. Because of our speed to graduation, V3 students have the ability to graduate with minimal school debt to repay upon graduation.
Use federal financial aid for:
As a caution, please know that federal financial aid will not cover all of your college expenses. However, it will cover most, if not all, of your direct college expenses, such as:
- Tuition and Fees
- Textbooks
- Technology
- Other educational expenses
Student loans
Due to recent federal legislation, beginning July 1, 2010, federal student loans will no longer be made by private lenders under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFELSM) ProgramSM. Instead, all new federal student loans will come directly from the U.S. Department of Education under the Direct Loan ProgramSM.
Students who have previously received a federal student loan from a private lender under the FFEL Program will need to complete a new promissory note to receive loans under the Direct Loan Program. Please check with the financial aid office for specific instructions.
Cautionary Note: Financial aid packages will vary by student. All students receiving federal loans will still be responsible for repaying your loans even if you withdraw from V3 College.
Pell Grants:
Pell Grants are grants, not loans. This means that you do not have to pay these back. Pell Grants are a need-based form of financial aid and are available only to those students that have not earned a bachelor’s degree.
They are available to those who have the most need, with need calculated based upon income, number of dependents, and other factors that are reported on the FAFSA.
Other federal grant programs
V3 College subscribes to other U.S. Department of Education grant programs such as the National SMART Grant. Those elligible for this grant include qualified full-time undergraduate Juniors and Seniors only who have also received Pell Grants in specific degree programs and are considered continuing students that have met all requirements or are transfer students enrolling with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
Disbursement of financial aid funds
Financial aid funds are used for educational costs only. Educational costs include tuition and fees, technology, books and supplies, travel for assessments, and living expenses. Funds are applied to the student’s account in the following order, as eligible: Scholarships, Pell Grant, other Federal Grants, and Direct Loans. Financial aid funds are available to students based on enrollment and are paid to the student’s account at the beginning of each term.
Each student will be notified via The Financial Aid Award letter, which includes estimated costs and aid for the academic year. Your aid for the year will be paid in six payments – one payment per term. Excess funds, which are defined as those funds left over after all tuition and fees are paid, will be disbursed directly to your student account four days after the start of each term.
A few cautions that you must know:
- You are responsible for any expenses that are greater than the amount of financial aid you receive.
- You are required to be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours to receive financial aid.
- You are required to progress academically as indicated by your academic plan. If you fail to do so, you will become ineligible for additional financial aid and for any loan deferment.
